ORGANIC AND NATURAL TEXTILES
Organic cotton is obtained from cotton grown from non-GMO seed, without the use of any harmful or synthetic chemicals, pesticides or herbicides. This method of growing cotton supports biodiversity, healthy ecosystems, improves the quality of soil and uses less water than the cultivation of conventional cotton. Growing organic cotton does require more time, knowledge and skill.
Tencel is a biosynthetic fiber made from the cellulose-rich pulp of rapidly growing eucalyptus trees. Tencel is produced through a closed-loop process where nearly 100% of the water and non-toxic solvents used are re-used. The resulting fiber can be spun into high quality yarn that is used for anything from underwear to sheets, jersey fabrics and even denim. Tencel drapes well, is soft, breathable, moisture-wicking, wrinkle-resistant and entirely biodegradable.
We print using Permaset Aqua water based inks, which do not contain PVC or phthalates, like the inks used by most other commercial screen printers. They do not contain ozone-depleting chemicals such as CFC’s and HCFC’s, aromatic hydrocarbons or any volatile solvents. They don’t contain lead or any heavy metals either. In fact, our inks do not contain any toxic chemicals at all, not even white spirits like other water based inks on the market. In addition they do not require the use of harmful solvents in the cleaning process, just water!
Water based inks can be difficult to print with, but we think the environmental and health benefits are worth it. Traditionally water based inks were not as hardwearing, durable and opaque as plastisol inks but things are different now -- you can expect our prints to last and the colors to remain vivid wash after wash...
